Burdall’s Yard – a renewed community venue
Yes, this is where the CRA has hosted its AGM for the last two years in November. On February 13th, the place was pretty much full for the chance to quiz our local MP, Wera Hobhouse, and local Walcot councillor, Oli Henman (on the opposite side of the photo).
We entered to be met by a silent protest about the Gaza situation which was very poignant. Once inside it was more convivial as this attracted residents and organisations from both Walcot, our ward, as well as Lambridge. We therefore had a good forum for considering NE Bath as a whole. It was good to see a fair smattering from Camden in the broadest sense and a lively ‘Question Time’ ensued on international, national, regional and local issues.
One piece of upcoming political news. There are significant boundary changes happening in time for the forthcoming general election. At the moment the Bath constituency is completely surrounded by the constituency of NE Somerset. Bath will be enlarged slightly to include Bathavon North and Newbridge. So Bathavon North brings in the northern and eastern communities of Langridge, Tadwick, Swainswick, Woolley, Batheaston and Bathford. Click here for details.
I also got to understand better how Burdall’s Yard is now run by the Next Theatre Company which also owns the Mission Theatre on Corn Street. It really does have an exciting arts and activity programme for people at all stages of life, both performances and classes, as well as community events. I signed up immediately and have just received their programme booklet. You can see the programme on-line here.
