Camden cares about litter…
Lockdown is easing and Spring has arrived at last, and with it vigorous new weeds along the edges of our pavements and garden walls, as well as the weekly scattering of litter left behind when the recycling collection takes place on Thursdays.
Several of us do take regular care of a short stretch alongside our own houses, which takes very little time and helps keep our streets looking good for more of the time. Orange Council bags for litter/weeds are available from Julie at 15 Lower Camden Place ([email protected]). The filled bags can be left next to litter bins and the council will collect them.
The residents’ association will resume weeding and litter picking on Sunday 18 April: if you would like to join us, or just want to say hello, we will be assembling on the corner of St Stephen’s Road and Camden Crescent at 10.00am. Covid rules restrict outdoor gatherings to six, but if we have more than six volunteers we can spread out along Camden Road.
Next month we will meet on Sunday 16 May at the top of Bennett’s Lane to tackle another stretch of the road. Future dates will be the third Sunday of each month, and there will be a reminder on the blog nearer the time.
The Fix My Street app is brilliant, or use this link if you want to report anything to B&NES council that needs attention – it usually gets sorted within a few days. A photograph helps but isn’t essential.

The alley way thar runs between Camden Road and Arundel Road used to be cleaned by the council. For years now it has not been cleaned. My husband would clean occasionally before he died seven years ago. I am an elderly old aged pensioner and do not think I should have to do this. I have spoken to the council but they do nothing and have done nothing for many years. Many people use this alley way including children, dogs etc. Could something be done about this mess?
Hi Joy, sorry to hear this. After our chat today I hope we can help on one of our litter picks soon. Do try the Fix My Street option too, as mentioned in the blog, as it does help to get attention.
The steps and alley is cleaned regularly every year by the council cleansing department. And leaves and weeds removed during the year
They are salted during the winter by ARUNDEL ROAD residents.
It’s part of the regular council cleaning schedule, it’s done regularly and conscientiously by the council team. Taking all the rubbish and leaves away in the truck
