So what’s going on ‘ere, today?
Well, we residents have had no warning from Wessex Water about this despite some activity on the street earlier this week. My information comes from a very helpful gentleman responsible for setting up this ‘traffic management solution’ on behalf of Wessex Water. He then stayed in the cab to make sure it was working and he was very pleased. This is the best information I have. If others can chip in then please do ‘reply’ to this post.
He tells me that WW have dug the first of three holes in the road and will continue on the others tomorrow. This seems to be to do with the sewage pipe running along and under Camden Road having failed and polluting houses on the more southerly side of the street – yuk! I can see the reason for the emergency. I guess the set of three holes are required to feed through a new inner pipe to plug the leak.
For those with an interest in traffic management, the timing of the traffic lights are set only to allow about four vehicles through in each direction so queues don’t back up and create an impossible impasse. In the case of this photo the bike-riding skateboarders defied the lights and restricted the flow to one car on this particular phase!
Much as I’d like it to be part of a grand plan for a low traffic neighbourhood or something, it isn’t!

I had a second look last night and saw a sign suggesting that these arrangements would be in place until next Friday, 3rd July.
