‘See you on Thursday week!’
We’ll be hosting our AGM at the Claremont Community Centre and afterwards in the pub on Thursday 21st November promptly at 19:30. Larkhall councillor and Joint Cabinet Lead for Transport, Joanna Wright, will be the main speaker. The newly elected committee will be launching our campaign for serious consideration to be given to a Low Traffic Neighbourhood scheme to cover North East Bath. We already have twenty names but the big push starts now. Do click here to do the same.
Some might say that we residents are kidding ourselves that the traffic is getting worse on Camden Road and Eastbourne Avenue. Well, here are three fresh bits of evidence to the contrary:
On our road, with a 20mph speed limit, in May we had a five vehicle accident this year resulting in one heavy SUV being pushed across the pavement into the front gate of a resident’s house and two other immobilised vehicles being carted away on low-loaders. As a regular pedestrian, like many others, I could have easily been in the ‘wrong place at the wrong time’ and so could any of us.
Our local estate agent who has worked for the last five years, with a window onto our street and who walks to work every day is convinced the traffic has got worse in this time.
A sober and thoughtful design engineer, who has recently returned from Singapore after 10 years says the volume and speed of traffic is markedly worse than before he went away.
We’ve now been knocking on doors for a month delivering our newsletter and the overwhelming view is that something that minimises or eradicates through traffic in our neighbourhood is essential now. The Council are suggesting a low traffic neighbourhood scheme and we are very much in favour of this and we have been giving a lot of thought as to how this might be applied here and to make sure we are the first, or one of the first districts to get one.
Do please come and lend your support to our campaign and show the local politicians present that we collectively want to press ahead as soon as physically possible. To find out more do read our November newsletter here.
Finally the papers for the AGM will be made available here
