Hedgemead Park earns first Green Flag Award!

Caroline Groom, CRA Committee Member and Secretary of the Friends of Hedgemead Park writes:

The flag was on display at the fete on 25th July, celebrating 130 years since the creation of the park, which also featured the Bath Spa Band as the first brass band playing in the bandstand for many years

On July 15^th we learnt that the Green Flag award had been granted. This prestigious award is a mark of quality and is given for green spaces with a high standard of maintenance that meet the needs of the local community, and recognises the commitment of staff and volunteers. The family friendly event was enjoyed by many local residents. We estimate that about 300 people attended, including maybe 60 children.

Bath’s new Mayor, Gerry Curran, was joined by actors from the Natural Theatre Company who re-enacted speeches from the original opening ceremony.

We have to reapply for the Green Flag each year, so the work is now on to maintain our lovely city park!
