Walcot Street Mini Roundabout
A new resident with a fresh pair of ideas put his concerns onto Nextdoor Camden’s web-site. The CRA took up his concerns with the council and have now got a promise that something will be done about it.
I do suggest using ‘Fix My Street‘ for this kind of issue. It is a great facility for any resident and makes the council officers fully accountable. It’s the first link in the listing on the righthand side of our website. This is the second time I’ve used it this year and the response has been very timely and helpful. Well done B@NES! Praise where it is due.

Having recently moved to Bath, and living at The Paragon, I have noticed that the mini roundabout at the top of Walcot St leading to London Rd is very dangerous as many drivers seem to forget how roundabouts work and shoot out regardless of other traffic. I was wondering has anyone else noticed this problem and does anyone else think that either a traffic light system or putting in a raised roundabout might help the situation?

I can help with this as I’m Chair of Camden Residents Association, most of whose residents live in the reconfigured ward of Walcot. I had reason to drive along the Paragon this morning from George Street and approached with full attention. It was surprisingly quiet and easy to see how people would not appreciate that traffic from Walcot Street has priority, for three reasons:
1. Walcot Street is obscured from view and only becomes partially apparent as you draw up to the MR. It is only then on the right hand side of one’s peripheral vision,
2. There is no early warning or give way signage at all just one sign saying ‘Mini Roundabout’,
3. The road markings are well worn and not very visible especially the give way line. This lack and deterioration of signage is not a new issue as our report on Camden Road last year further exemplified. See here on page https://camdenresidentsbath.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/cra-paper-10-final-compressed.pdf, page 25.
The Council wrote to me today:
Dear Mr Labram,
I have now had the opportunity to look into this matter. I can confirm that funding has been allocated within the next financial year’s Transport Improvement Program (TIP) to investigate and look at improving this approach along The Paragon towards the mini RB. It’s hard to give exact timescales at this stage but please be assured this matter is in hand and thank you for raising your concerns.
Kind Regards
We’re not there yet but the next step is clear.
