Camden resident asks B&NES for carbon neutrality by 2030
Yesterday, our very own Lydia Halcrow exerted her right for a 3 minute speech (click here and go to the 24th minute of the video) at yesterday’s B&NES Cabinet meeting to ask for B&NES to expedite any plans it might have to reach carbon neutrality by 2030, rather than 2050, which if reflected globally would limit global temperatures rising more 1.5 degrees. This would require radical and collective action across all walks of life including actions and decisions taken at local government level. She cited the latest IPCC report (click here) and suggested that all in the meeting should read it.
If you also feel strongly about this do help her to reach 1200 signatures to compel the council to debate this formally. Click here to sign the her petition.
Council Leader, Tim Warren, was supportive of her views and said that the council had motions it would bring to a meeting on March 14th.
It is easy to get very focussed on the immediate issues on Camden Road and perhaps the national ones too, but forget that there are existential global issues whuch need concerted effort and the first place to start is one’s broader locality.
As a footnote:
The CRA also used this facility (click here) a year ago to bring attention to our report on Tackling Congestion and Poor Air Quality in Camden (click here).
